La la land

One day, out of nowhere, I watched La La Land, and I ended up falling in love with it. It’s a very simple story, but a deeply emotional ride for me. I don’t even know why, but whenever I try to do something, the universe gives me something related to it, and I end up shaping my thoughts around that. This film was one of those signs.

For people who have never watched it, let me give you a short idea. Mia and Sebastian ,two young, passionate souls. Mia is an aspiring actress, while Sebastian is a jazz musician who dreams of opening his own club. They both fall passionately in love not just with each other, but with their careers too. They supported and inspired each other.

But slowly, they realized something painful: they were becoming a hurdle to each other's dreams. Their love was real, but it was pulling them away from their goals. So, they chose to part ways.

Years later, Mia, now a successful actress with a husband and child, walks into a jazz club with her husband. The name of the club? Seb’s ,a name she had given Sebastian when they dreamed about it together. When Sebastian sees her, he starts playing the piano. In that moment, everything comes back. They share a silent look, full of emotions, and imagine for a second what life could have been.

What if they had stayed together?

That “what if” hit me hard. Because honestly, it’s something I have felt too. So many times, I’ve stood at a crossroad and thought , what if I hadn’t given up? What if I had said something else? Done something different?

People often say, “The ones who want to stay, stay.” But La La Land shows that sometimes, even love isn’t enough. Sometimes you’re just not meant to be, no matter how deeply you feel for someone. And that’s okay.

Sebastian and Mia were the right people for each other, but at the wrong time. They helped each other grow. They made each other who they were meant to be. But to become those people, they had to let go.

Sebastian reached his dream, but he’s alone. Mia found love and balance in life, but that one silent look told us she still carries a piece of Sebastian in her heart. That final smile? It said everything. Love, loss, respect, and peace.

The film doesn’t say love always loses to ambition. It says that sometimes, choosing your dream means letting go of something beautiful. And sometimes, that beautiful thing is someone you love deeply.

To anyone who’s ever asked themselves “what if”, this movie is for you.
